We’ve put together a bit of guidance on how we
work with you to complete your project on time.
We’ll provide you with a website brief to complete. This will help us to pin down your requirements, and give you the exact site you’re after. We can also get a feel for what you do and don’t want your site to look like.
You’ll also need to provide us with some text for your website and any images and video that you want to include. Don’t worry if you’re having trouble with your website text, just say the word, and we’ll give you a hand.
We’ll put together a site map, so we can clarify exactly what pages will be on the website, and how the navigation will be structured.
Now for the fun bit. We’ll put together a selection of homepage designs, based on the information that you have supplied us in the questionnaire. We’ll send you a private web link to view your designs. At this stage the designs are presented to you as images, not fully functional websites, so that we can easily tweak the designs until we’ve got the one you like just right.
At this point we ask for a 25% deposit.
Once the homepage has been approved, we’ll then create all of the pages for your site, based on the chosen homepage design. As before, we will send you a private web link to view these pages. Let us know if we need to amend anything, and we’ll update the designs accordingly.
We’ll now ask you for final approval on the website design, before we proceed with building your website.
We now take your finalised designs and turn them into a fully functioning website. When complete, we’ll upload the site to a private testing area for you to view. As part of our build process, we test that the website works on various browsers and platforms, so you don’t need to worry about that bit. But do take a look at all your text and images on the site. Let us know of any final amends that need to be made.
We’ll ask you for final approval on the website build.
You’ll now receive an invoice for the final 75% of the balance.
The site will now go-live, and we’ll submit your site to all the major search engines.
The management of a website will vary depending on the nature of each site. There are several options available to you:
Once the site is up and running, it belongs to you! So if you have a bit of HTML knowledge you can update the site yourself. We’ll provide you will all the FTP details for your site to enable you to do this. There are lots of HTML editors available on the market, and we’ll give you some guidance on the best package for you to use. We can even provide you with a bit of training to get you up and running.
If you have a small brochure site, without many regular updates, we’ll be happy to do ad-hoc changes for you. We’ll let you know how much this will be up front, so you don’t end up with a bill that you weren’t expecting.
We can provide you with a maintenance package, if you would like us to do regular updates for you. We can also combine this with an SEO package if you like. Let us know the nature of the updates involved, and we can give you a quote for a monthly or quarterly maintenance package.
If you foresee a lot of regular updates, and your site is quite large, then it may be worth investing in a Content Management System (CMS). There is no hiding from the fact that these are more expensive, but they give you the flexibility of updating your own site whenever you want, and they work within a framework to prevent any unwanted changes to the site!
It’s worth thinking about how you are going to maintain your site, right at the start, as it could have an impact on the type of website you decide to have. We’ll discuss all these options with you at the start of the project.
